Drowning in Urology Billing Denials and Modifier Headaches?
Hi, all, I used to have to deal with billing in a busy urology practice in the Southwest over the past few years, and the problems with reimbursement never stopped. Among the modifiers in cystoscopies, ESWL, TURPs, and the art of getting prostate biopsy codes correct, among all the previous headaches of authoring, is the miscoding of a claim that will erase weeks of work. A spike in the denials due to incomplete tracking of global periods visiting post-op was experienced last quarter. The initial move to become more stringent on our part, with regard to the audit process, assisted in uncovering some of the errors, but it is tiresome. Have you here imported urology billing services to take the specialty-specific stuff? Has it reduced denials, increased cash flow, or merely moved the issues around? True stories welcome- thanks!
